About Me

Hello all and welcome to my blog! I am currently teaching 1st grade at a private Catholic school in Texas. This will be my third year teaching there and I am looking forward to all the exciting adventures I will have with my students this year. I love being creative with our school's curriculum and changing it up to be more exciting for the students and me.

I graduated from the University of the Incarnate Word with a bachelors in education and I also have minors in reading and special education. I am currently working on my master's degree in Early Childhood Education.

A little bit more about me: I was born in Long Beach, California, but I grew up in Austin, Texas. I love to stay busy and therefore I have a lot of hobbies that include reading, writing, knitting, cooking, and dancing (just to name a few). My friends have two nicknames for me: Computer Guru and Animal Whisperer. Computer Guru, because I am really good with technology and can fix most computer problems (no matter the operating system) and Animal Whisperer because all animals love me. I enjoy spending weekends in my balcony garden and composting

Teaching Philosophy

I believe that our students are our future and as a teacher, my job is to help develop the skill sets the students need to become functioning members of society when they grow up. I recognize that teaching begins at home, so I will strive to involve the parents and community in the education of my students. I will do this by taking the students on field trips, inviting members of the local community to come and interact with the students, and by asking parents to help contribute to the classroom learning experience. For example, I might ask parents to provide an item that is unique to their culture or I might ask them to come in and talk about their culture or job profession. My classroom setting and teaching style will be inclusive and will encourage the acceptance of diversity. My classroom will always be a safe and stable environment for the students to learn in.

Each student has a different way of learning. Therefore, I will present my lessons in a variety of ways in order to be able to more effectively reach more of my students. If one of my students is having trouble learning something, I recognize that it is my responsibility to help that student to find a method that works for them or to ask the parents to help them at home. I believe in the learn-through-play method, meaning I will provide fun, hands-on ways to learn. One of the most influential actions of a teacher is what kind of example they set for students. As a teacher inside and outside of the classroom, I will always try to set a good Christian example for my students.
